National Human Rights Council Monitors “Violations in Fnideq”
In light of the recent events in Fnideq, the National Human Rights Council (CNDH), led by Amina Bouayach, has called on all individuals—adults, children, and their guardians—who may have experienced violations of their rights to reach out for assistance. The Council aims to listen to their concerns as part of ongoing investigations at both central and regional levels.
Ongoing Monitoring and Investigation
The CNDH emphasized its commitment to protecting rights and monitoring attempts to cross borders that occur in the Mdiq-Fnideq area, addressing all associated issues. The Council’s statement noted that information has been gathered through social media monitoring and field observations by the regional human rights committee in Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima.
Meetings and Legal Proceedings
On September 15, during multiple crossing attempts in Fnideq, the President of the CNDH convened a meeting with specialized teams in the Council’s central office in Rabat. The discussions focused on preliminary findings from ongoing monitoring efforts and the importance of addressing the needs of affected individuals. The Council is currently awaiting the results of a judicial inquiry supervised by the Public Prosecution at the Court of Appeal in Tetouan regarding certain events and images circulated.
Support for Regional Human Rights Committee
The CNDH has announced that it will support the regional human rights committee in Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima by providing a dedicated team to observe the trials of individuals who have been brought before the Public Prosecution and are being held in custody.
Digital Monitoring and Information Accuracy
The Council continues to monitor digital spaces and social media platforms for both previous and emerging attempts to cross borders. It has noted the vast amount of information circulating, acknowledging that some may be accurate while others could be misleading or false.
